Expanding Feed grade Lysine Plant in Brazil

Aiming to become a global corporation in food and amino acid products from its origins in Japan, Ajinomoto Co., Inc. is developing its businesses globally. One such business is feed-use amino acids, in which Ajinomoto is a leading global company, with six production bases worldwide.

Ajinomoto is underway of expanding the production capacity of feed grade Lysine to 48,000 tons by September, 2003, at its subsidiary Ajinomoto Biolatina Indústria e Comércio Ltda. (HQ: São Paulo; Plant: Valparaíso, São Paulo) in Brazil. On top of that, in order to meet the rapidly growing demand, Ajinomoto decided to further increase the capacity to 72,000 tons.

AJINOMOTO ANIMAL NUTRITION group targets to expand its annual production capacity of feed grade Lysine from 240 thousand tons in the end of the fiscal year 2002 to 300 thousand tons in the fiscal year 2005, and the expansion in Brazil is also a part of this plan. The annual production capacity of the group will reach to 260 thousand tons in total after the implementation of the current expansion in Brazil by September, 2003, then, this second project in Brazil will realize 285 thousand tons of capacity in December, 2004. Adding the 50,000 tons in the United States, AJINOMOTO ANIMAL NUTRITION group will have 122,000 tons of capacity in Americas, which can make rapid progress in the supply mainly to the region. The capital expenditure for this investment is 26 million USD (approximately 3.1 billion JPY).

The mission of AJINOMOTO ANIMAL NUTRITION group is to develop applications for feed-use amino acids that will contribute to the efficient utilization of limited food resources, reduce the environmental impact of intensive animal production and produce healthful, safe and tasty food products. AJINOMOTO ANIMAL NUTRITION group will continue to guarantee a stable supply of high-quality feed grade amino acid products and offer customer services tailored to each region to support customers worldwide.
