Worldwide Community Clean-up Day in Peru |
The Ajinomoto Group initiated the Smile Earth! Campaign for the Future of the Planet in fiscal 2007. In the following year, group employees around the world participated in the campaign, widening the circle of voluntary social contribution activities. For example, the group held its third Worldwide Community Clean-up Day in October 2008. Some 6,500 employees at 150 sites in and outside Japan participated in community clean-ups on the same day. In December, the group held its Mottainai (What a waste!) Campaign to encourage the collection of latent resources such as books and foreign coins as donations to disadvantaged children in developing countries. Approximately 200,000 yen worth of articles were collected in Japan. Some sites also began participating in the EcoCap Movement, which collects PET bottle caps to finance the delivery of vaccines to those in need outside Japan. In addition, the environmental performance Eco Action Contest staged unique initiatives at each site, such as a campaign in Brazil to reduce leftovers. Group employees from 26 sites in Japan expanded awareness of human rights by creating 2,167 human rights promotion slogans. Through these activities, the Ajinomoto Group is spreading smiles throughout the world through the Smile Earth! Campaign for the Future of the Planet.
