Tokyo, July 30, 2014 - Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad (Ajinomoto Malaysia), a consolidated subsidiary of Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (Ajinomoto Co.), began sales throughout Malaysia in May of TUMIX Gravy Enhancer, a flavor seasoning for easier, more delicious preparation of gravy dishes, a spicy stew served over rice that is familiar in Malay households. Malaysia’s first flavor seasoning for gravy dishes, this product makes it easy to achieve the balance of flavors and mild taste preferred by Malay people using the unique key ingredients of Ajinomoto Co.

Stable economic growth is expected in Malaysia, which has a population of approximately 30 million and a GDP growth rate of approximately 4%, and the country’s seasonings market is expanding at a compound annual growth rate of 5% (2007-2013, Ajinomoto Co. survey). With this launch of a product in the new field of gravy dishes, Ajinomoto Malaysia intends to stimulate the flavor seasoning market.

Ajinomoto Malaysia launched TUMIX® in 2003 as a versatile flavor seasoning with the perfect balance of chicken, sautéed garlic and onions. The brand name TUMIX® is derived from the Malay word “tumis,” which means to sauté with garlic and onions.

Malaysia is a multicultural nation made up of three main ethnic groups (Malay: approx. 60%; Chinese: approx. 25%; Indian and the others: approx. 15%) that are different not only in language, but also in religion, cuisine and eating habits. Ajinomoto Malaysia developed TUMIX® Gravy Enhancer in response to the desire, mainly among beginner cooks in the Malay population, the largest ethnic group, for an easier, more delicious way to prepare the gravy dishes they often eat at home. The product is a flavor seasoning that brings out the flavor of the ingredients and makes adding thickness easy by using Ajinomoto Co.’s unique key ingredients. This exemplifies the Ajinomoto Group’s approach of “Creating Specialty (high added value)” by applying its original technologies to produce “Deliciousness” and “New Value” adapted to each country.
