Nagasaki Kunchi is a festival held from October
7 to 9 at Suwa Shrine in Nagasaki Prefecture. With a history that dates back some
360 years, the festival was designated as an important intangible cultural asset
by the national government in 1979. Along with a colorful array of dance performances
and floats presented by groups from different towns and villages, the festival
features a decorative portable shrine shaped like a boat to represent fishing
and the renowned dragon dance.
