The Nebuta Matsuri, a festival
celebrated in Aomori Prefecture, is a long-standing tradition
now recognized as a priceless cultural heritage. Nebuta sculptures are made of bamboo, wood, and paper in the
shape of popular, traditional figures such as armor-clad samurai. These images can be of immense size, reaching
heights of five meters, widths of nine meters and depths
of seven meters. The Nebuta are paraded through
the streets, accompanied by Japanese drums and flutes
and elaborately dressed dancers.
