The origin of Tanabata, or
the Star Festival, dates back to a Chinese legend, where
it has been said that two mythological lovers, Orihime (Vega, a weaving girl) and Kengyu (Altair, a cowherd),
could meet only once a year on July 7 in the Milky Way.
During this festival, a popular custom is for people to
write their wishes on strips of colored paper and tie
them to bamboo branches.
