Prior to the invention of air conditioning,
Japanese people came up with a variety of ways to make
the hot summer bearable. A furin, or wind-bell,
is one idea for mental relief. Made of metal or glass,
these small bells were hung under the eaves of a house
or in front of the windows to signal the presence of a
cooling breeze.
