Expansion of the Production Capacity of Feed-Use Threonine
 
From its beginnings in Japan, Ajinomoto Co., Inc. aims to be a global company in food and amino acid products and is expanding its operations on a global scale.
 
Ajinomoto will double its production capacity of feed-use threonine at AJINOMOTO EUROLYSINE in Amiens, France, in addition to the construction of a new facility in the United States which was announced last January.
 
Total capital investment of EUR55 million (5.2 billion yen) in Europe will increase annual production capacity of feed-use threonine from 19,000 metric tons to 35,000 metric tons by the end of the year 2002.
 
Although Europe is the world’s largest feed-use threonine market, this increased production capacity will provide a stable supply not only the rapidly growing European market but also to the Asian market, where demand is expected to increase significantly.
 
The total capital investment in the US and European facilities will be approximately 10 billion yen. Ajinomoto considers feed-use threonine to be the second major product in its feed-use amino acid business, behind feed-use lysine, and is committed to further developing the global feed-use threonine market through close contact with regional customers.
