Aiming to become a global corporation in food and amino acid products from its origins in Japan, Ajinomoto Co., Inc. is developing its businesses globally. One such business is feed-use amino acids, in which Ajinomoto is a leading global company, with six production bases worldwide.
Ajinomoto will expand the production capacity of feed grade Lysine at its subsidiary Ajinomoto Biolatina Industria e Comercio Ltda. (HQ: Sao Paulo; Plant: Valparaiso, Sao Paulo) in Brazil to meet the rapidly growing demand.
AJINOMOTO ANIMAL NUTRITION group has a plan to expand its annual production of eed grade Lysine from the current 200,000 tons to 300,000 tons in 2005. As announced before, in March 2003, AJINOMOTO ANIMAL NUTRITION group will increase its production capacity to 240,000 tons by the ongoing expansion in Italy, the United States and Thailand. In addition to this ongoing expansion to 240,000 tons, the expansion in Brazil is also a part of the plan to 300,000 tons and it is planned to increase from 30,000 tons to 60,000 tons, then the annual production capacity of the group will reach to 270,000 tons in total by the end of 2004. This expansion will be made stepwise. The first investment is to increase to 48,000 tons to meet the strong growth of South/Central American Lysine demand and the second is to 60,000 tons. Based on the efficient investment plan, the capital expenditure for the first investment will be saved at 15 million USD (approximately 1.9 billion JPY), of which construction will be completed in September 2003.
