Ajinomoto Group Issues CSR Report 2005
- Initiatives Toward A Sustainable Society -

October 3, 2005 - Tokyo - Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (Ajinomoto, President & CEO: Norio Yamaguchi; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan) has just issued the Group's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report.

1.The feature articles of the latest CSR report
 (1) Three special feature reports on the Group's initiatives to commit itself to fulfill the social
   responsibility through the business activities
 (2) Formulation processes of the CSR vision which indicates the Group's missions and goals
 (3) Reviews by three external independent experts in different areas, which increases the
   objectivity and transparency of the report
The concepts of our business and the issues we tackle are also clearly explained by stakeholder
group in the latter part of the report.

2. The contents of the report
 (1) Contribution to a recycle-oriented society and high quality of life through amino-acid business
   Special Feature 1) Meeting the Challenge of Building a Recycling-Oriented Society
   - Bio-cycle
    This is the unique resource recovery system that the Ajinomoto Group developed to utilize
   by-products generated through the fermentation process to produce AJI-NO-MOTO umami
   seasoning, which is made from amino-acid produced from agricultural produce. With this system,
   the by-products are used as natural fertilizer in the fields where the farmers grow the raw
   materials of AJI-NO-MOTO, such as sugar canes.
   - Feed-use amino-acid
    Amino-acid added to animal feed improves animals' health by balancing amino-acid in their bodies,
   which results in reducing environmental impacts by excretory substances from the animals.

   Special Feature 2) Building Fulfilling, High Quality Lives with Amino Acids
    With its amino-acid technologies, the Ajinomoto Group eagerly promotes total nutrition care to
   help patients to keep their nutrient balance from treatment to prognosis, and contributes to the
   improvement in people's health as well as in the area of pharmaceuticals such as amino acid drug
   development.

   Special Feature 3) CSR Vision Workshops
    Inviting both external experts and employees from all divisions, we held workshops to discuss the
   issues to be tackled and the goals which are expected to be achieved by each stakeholder group.

   1) Chapter 1: In Society
   With Consumers
    - Initiatives to assure safety and quality: the Ajinomoto System of Quality Assurance (ASQUA)
    - Establishing information database on raw materials and traceability system by managing supplier
    - Labeling of ingredients to show with or without potential allergens as well as useful information
     on the use and disposal of products
    - Statements on our attitudes to our customers under the CS promotion policy
   With Business Partners
    - Exchanging information on the possible influences by and the responses to the revision of the
     Food Sanitation Law.
    - Formulation of the Ajinomoto Group Green Procurement Guidelines and the monitoring of
     environmental management systems implemented in our business partners
   With Our Shareholders and Investors
    - Investors
    - Stable and sustainable dividend payments based on consolidated business results
   With Local Communities
    - Implementation of public offering and selection for the Global Programs in corporate citizenship
     activities
    - Newly established the Ajinomoto Scholarship Foundation, formerly known as the Suzuki
     Scholarship Foundation, launched a scholarship for foreign students studying in Japan.
   With Our Employees
    - Respecting the employees' diverse values and creating work environment with a positive
     work-life balance
    - Capacity building for employees at the manager's level so they will play a vital role in global
     business circumstances
    - Education programs to strengthen employees' expertise

   2) Chapter 2: For the Global Environment
   Environmental management:
    - Summary of the Ajinomoto Group Three-year Environmental Conservation Plan
     (FY2002-FY2004)
    - Formulating the 2005-2010 Ajinomoto Group Zero Emissions Plan
    - Environmental audit, environmental assessment, and environmental education
   Environmental Performance:
    - Prevention of global warming, wastewater load reduction, waste reduction, chemical
     substances control
    - Efforts to promote modal shift or rail transportation which results in the Eco-Rail Mark
     approved by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Japan)
