colorfully decorated rake, to which masks and imitation coins are attached. Kumade
are talismans used to rake in good fortune for the year. Tori-no-ichi
festivals are held throughout the country, but the celebrations at Ohtori Shrine
in Asakusa in Tokyo are among the most famous. |
