Industry-Academia Social Cooperation Program Clarifying Healthy Diets for the Japanese People

– Social cooperation program between the International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School, Ajinomoto Co., Inc., and Meiji Co., Ltd.

■Social Cooperation Program Overview
This program is a research and communications platform for industry-academia cooperation between the International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School, Ajinomoto Co., Inc., and Meiji Co., Ltd. The purpose of the program is to scientifically organize and evaluate the role that Japanese food culture and dietary habits have played in healthy longevity from the perspectives of nutritional epidemiology and public health nutrition. The outcome of this program will clarify what constitutes a healthy diet for the Japanese people.
In contrast to the Euro- and U.S.-centric nutritional assessment and policy discussions to date, this program intends to build evidence that complements Japan’s unique nutritional issues, including assessments by cuisine and diet, diversity, and diet balance. The program will then attempt to link the results to social implementation, policy recommendations, and international communications.

■Participation in Research and Social Implementation
The Ajinomoto Institute of Food Sciences and Technologies will participate in research activities and contribute to the establishment of scientific evidence in line with Japan’s nutritional challenges and food culture.
In addition, a special website for the social cooperation program will serve as a platform for linking research results with society.
The program will publish lectures, dialogues, and otherwise continue to communicate information on research results through this website, pursuing interaction among industry, government, academia, and the private sector that leads to social implementation and recommendations for an evidence-based healthy diet.
