Along with society
Group-Wide Efforts to Improve Employee Health and Well-Being
The health of every employee is essential to putting Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value (ASV) in practice
The Ajinomoto Group aims to contribute to the well-being of all human beings, our society and our planet with “AminoScience.” As part of our efforts, we advance initiatives to improve nutrition aimed at extending the healthy life expectancy of one billion people by 2030. Our approach, Nutrition Without Compromise*1, guides our commitment to leveraging "Aminoscience" and address nutritional challenges through three pillars: nutrition without compromising taste, nutrition without compromising access, and nutrition without compromising the local way of life.
The Ajinomoto Group strives to improve employee health and nutrition, as well as create vibrant and energetic workplaces, through workforce nutrition improvement initiatives. We believe that when employees practice self-care and stay active and engaged in their work, we can better contribute to the well-being of people, society, and the planet, driving the growth of the Group. Our focus is not on implementing a one-size-fits-all program across the Group, but on advancing workforce nutrition improvement initiatives tailored to each country, organization, and food culture.
Accelerating efforts in line with global standards as a Workforce Nutrition Alliance (WNA) member
The Workforce Nutrition Alliance (WNA) was established by the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), an international industry network of consumer goods companies, and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), an NGO dedicated to improving nutrition worldwide. The alliance supports businesses working to enhance employee health and well-being. The Ajinomoto Group joined the WNA in March 2022 to advance workforce nutrition improvement activities globally.
To date, 17 Ajinomoto Group companies (accounting for 70% of all employees) have conducted self-assessments on their workplace initiatives in four areas: providing healthy food at work, implementing nutrition education, facilitating nutrition-focused health checks, and offering breastfeeding support. Each company advances workforce nutrition improvement initiatives aligned with their specific circumstances through PDCA cycles and collaboration with Ajinomoto Co., Inc. The WNA recognized the Group's efforts and featured them in a case study.*2
Consistent efforts driving changes in employee awareness and behavior
Under the nutrition education pillar of our workforce nutrition improvement initiatives, the Ajinomoto Group aims to provide nutrition education to 100,000 employees by 2025. We have expanded our nutrition education across nearly 100 Group companies since fiscal 2021, using e-learning and other forms of education suited to each company. Topics included well-balanced meals, delicious salt reduction, protein intake optimization and amino acids, and the intake of fruits and vegetables. As a result, we provided nutrition education to a cumulative total of 88,000 employees by fiscal 2023 and 122,000 by fiscal 2024, achieving our target one year ahead of our plan.
Group companies are also implementing proactive initiatives tailored to the food cultures and challenges of different countries and regions.
Ajinomoto Co., Inc. conducts consultations with all employees based on health check results. At Ajinomoto do Brasil, employee cafeterias serve Kachimeshi meals as part of the nutrition education approach, while Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. provides one healthy dish free of charge in its cafeteria. Ajinomoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. supports breastfeeding by installing lactation rooms at its sites.
These efforts continue to guide the entire Group steadily in a positive direction. The Ajinomoto Group Engagement Survey showed that 83% of employees responded positively to questions related to health and well-being. The WNA self-assessment score increased 13% from 2022 to 2023, exceeding our expectations.
The Ajinomoto Group will continue to develop workforce nutrition improvement initiatives with a focus on nutrition education, a key initiative of our approach. We aim to connect each employee’s practice of ASV to contributions to the well-being of people, society, and the planet.
*We plan to introduce initiatives from Group companies in several future updates.
