Ajinomoto Co., Inc. holds the first Sustainability Advisory Council Meeting

Ajinomoto Co., Inc. held its first Sustainability Advisory Council meeting on May 6, 2021. The purposes of the meeting are as follows.

  1. To deepen each Council member’s understanding of the aspiration of the Ajinomoto Group

  2. To share expectations to the Group from the perspectives of each stakeholder (the specialized field of the Council members)

To deepen understanding of the aspiration of the Group, CEO Nishii shared the matters consulted from the Board of Directors to the Sustainability Advisory Council, and he enthusiastically told the Council members how the Group’s identity has been established, and link between purpose/vision of the Group and its business. Nishii also shared the issues the Group is facing. One of the issues is to ensure the sustainability of the food system (a system that maintains stable procurement of raw materials and balanced supply in a healthy global environment and serves as the foundation for protecting the diet and health of consumers. It is indispensable to the continuity and growth of the Group’s business). As an example, the agricultural contribution project, which is being implemented in Thailand, was introduced.

Toward the sustainable development of the Group, the Council members gave active opinions on “how the Group is viewed,” “what they expect of the Group” and “why is it so” from the perspectives of each specialized field.

At the second Sustainability Advisory Council meeting, we will deepen discussions based on the views expressed by the Council members, and will also discuss with a view to 2050 the direction the Group as well as Materiality.

Through a total of four meetings, the Council will draw up a vision for the Group on long-term sustainability that reflects the multi-stakeholder perspective and report it to the Board of Directors.
